Black Obsidian Crystal Skull With Snakes

$135.00
This is a one of a kind offering! This skull is an unpolished black obsidian piece, featuring a skull and two snakes that have wrapped themselves around the skull. The skull measures about 3 5/8" x 2 1/2" x 3" and weighs about 1 lb. Only the eyes of the snakes are shiny - probably an application of a lacquer or something similar. You will receive the exact piece as shown in this listing.

Metaphysical Properties:
Black obsidian is most known in the metaphysical world for being a psychic vacuum or scrubber, cleaning out negativity, clutter and debris from the past. I see this stone more as a mirror for self reflection, as it does this by bringing to light the things that we are shying away from - our shadow self. As this happens we have a new awareness and a heart based perspective, which can ultimately lead to integration. This makes obsidian a stone of transformation and renewal. Like many other black stones, obsidian resonates with the root chakra, helping to balance and open the energy so we feel more refreshed and rooted. It also helps us stay in the "now" moment instead of reminiscing on what has already happened, or worrying about things to come.

Skulls are often depicted as creepy or are associated with death, especially in today's media. However, with that association with death, should also come the association to divine wisdom as death is always making us wiser. In the literal sense, death of a loved one can make us see just how much that person meant and how precious life can be. In a symbolic sense, the death of a past behavior or relationship helps us move onto new and better things that better serve us in the now moment. In some religions and cultures, skulls are a reminder of the cyclical and natural progression of life. You may also use this skull on an altar, especially during Samhain, to honor your ancestors.

As a spiritual symbol, the snake represents several aspects, including life force (kundalini), healing and transformation on a spiritual, mental and physical level. Some people wonder why snakes are associated with healing, and that, I think, in part is drawn from the Greek god Aesclepius. He is often depicted with a staff with a snake wrapped around this staff, the Caduceus wand, which is still used today for modern medicine. Most people know that snakes shed their skin and that is why they are often associated with transformation, and more specifically, a shift in spiritual growth or the rising of kundalini. In some cultures the presence of a snake is seen as a gift, specifically from Shiva.
